Seasonal changing items

I have a room that I'd like to change with the seasons. I basically made an 'outside' around the room to make it more complete. it has separate items, trees/grass/bushes/a pond/ a gazebo so it's not one room where I can go in and change the textures as i need. but it gave me an idea and I'm wondering if it would be possible to do this (and not be a kbs nightmare)

so take the trees for example, could one be made where all you say is a trigger word and they change colors/textures so when loaded into the room it starts as a summer tree, full green leaves and brown trunk. but type in the trigger word 'fall', and the leaves change to gold. type in 'winter' the leaves disappear (as in the opacity is set to black) and the trunk has a new texture with snow on it, 'spring' you get bright green leaves and 'summer' turns it back to normal. now imagine a room with multiple trees/bushes/ground and pond like this. all you have to do is say 'winter' and the whole room changes from summer grass and leaves to snow, ice and bare trees.

this could work for other things as well. take a pine tree for example, in 'winter' its covered in snow 'summer' would make it a normal pine tree and 'christmas' you could decorate it with a flat painted on textures of tinsel and maybe even a star (who's opacity would be blank for summer). even decorations around the house could work like this.

A wreath on the door, could have flower textures/color for spring/ summer, winter it would be red and green for christmas, in the fall it could have a halloween or thanksgiving look, depending on how the developer used the textures... the possibilities would be endless.

I also thought a weather box would be a neat idea too. a hidden item that when you type rain, it rains, snow would be s slower speed and different texture for the flakes, spring time could have falling flower petals and leaves for autumn... all in one item.

Well basically your talking about the same method used for the green rooms. Just you have to make similar room in different textures, link them at dummy in prog and move these dummies with a trigger. Your ideas are amazing, are you sure there aren't rooms like that on imvu's shop so far?

I have also thought of having this. It was attempted by someone for me, but I opted out when I saw it would be 3,000kbs give or take a few lol.
I think your problem would come with those kbs, I'm almost certain it will be high in kbs.

I assume that there would be a dev that can do it with simple planes, but the quality of the room would possibly be very low. As in No frills and simple.

There are some that exist, however they do not have trees and any of the other things you mentioned, they only have windows and sky changes.

But the idea is defo a fantastic one. :panda6:

It would be cool if you designed it in such a way that the room was in 2 parts. 1 part was the room itself with all the furniture and the second part was a wrapper of sorts that dictates how the environment looks.

So at any point you can change what you want the outside to look. They would be separate products and you could sell different wrappers in the catalog.

Yeah correct, trees and general foliage are high in kbs, and considering the 3 hidden meshes for have the seasons effect it may become very high in weight, not for textures ofc, but in mesh polygons.

I think we may make a central 3D shaft like scene's protagonist, then make the rest with plans, which is the same method I'm using for make realistic big outside rooms. I think in this way we should get a decent weight.

I'd love to have someone else opinion btw

@D.M. - That would be a great idea as well. But I assume with the way imvu does the decorated rooms, it wouldn't work, due to the fact that at this moment if you decorate a room, you can't use that same room and decorate it again.

For your idea to work the would think that they would have to make it possible for you to alter a decorated room/or have that one room be decorated in more than one way. At this moment there isn't.

Welp at least I think I'm making sense lol :awesome2:

@ Axiom- If this room was made I would dev the hell out of it haha :awesome15:

Well the wrapper would be a furniture product. It would only change things like the skybox of a room. You know how lots of rooms are inside of a giant sphere with the sky painted on it? That's what I'm talking about.

The wrapper would be a piece of furniture larger than the room itself that wrapped the room in a bubble with a skybox texture. So you could at any point swap out the skybox for different seasons.

Of course this isn't as nice as what the OP suggested cause things in the room wouldn't change like the trees for example but I think it could still be a cool idea.

Oooh I see, I see.
I agree, all the ideas have been great, and very good money makers. I know about 30 people that have requested a room similar to these from me already, but 3ds max makes my brain hurt. Then I just sit there like uhhhh... :awesome22:

So Ik that it would also be profitable to whoever made it.

What an fantastic idea Moondoggie!

Yes! Possible to trigger change of seasons. http://www.imvu.com/shop/web_search.php ... om=2784780 Found this and not high poly. Ive used morph animation to expose hidden textures when when triggered. But looking at this mesh it uses skeletal animation and when triggered its replaced.

As far as high poly, was recently reading that some meshers dont give a shit and that technology should be able to handle and if you cant that fuck it. Thus see high body meshes, high kbs...

I have some high poly count items but low kbs. So i dont know. I think it is possible to model a tree that changes w the season and not strain the user. IMVU's rendering is horrible anyways.

@Xhynrae- It really is a great idea. But the problem is that I believe the majority of Imvu can't handle the high kbs, which is the reason why there is now a billion horrid tiny cramped rooms. Its due to most users not being able to play with the higher kbs.

You are right the rendering is pretty sad lol, but I think this is also due to them adding and adding and not fixing the already existing issues.
