A patent is defined by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) as “the grant of a property right to the inventor.” Patents are used by inventors to protect their rights over their inventions. IMVU has invented a lot of really cool stuff over the years, some of which they have patented with the U.S. patent office. A patent grant confers upon the owner “the right to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, selling, or importing the invention.” In other words, patents prevent IMVU's competitors from stealing and reselling their inventions. As consumers, we can use these patents to look into the future of IMVU and see what they might have planed next. For example, IMVU appears to have patent for WithMoji effective 2014, 2 years before WithMoji was released.

5) Alright, here is the mysterious patent. A geolocation tool that shows you a real life in time map of yourself and other online IMVU users near you, effective 2004 and filed in 2005: https://patents.google.com/patent/US734 ... r&sort=new
Is it just me, or is anyone else reminded of pokemon go by that last patent? IMVU filed that patent in 2005, over 10 years ago. I wonder if we will ever get to see this geolocation feature in action on IMVU? I personally do not remember ever seeing this feature on IMVU in the past. I have however seen geolocation libraries / code embeded in the IMVU client for years. I wonder if this is something they were working on and then canceled? Quite the mystery.
