PSA: Client Updates

It's come to my attention that a lot of people don't understand how the Mafias clients work in relation to IMVU updates, so I thought I'd share some knowledge to hopefully avoid 20 million "Lite/T3/DC doesn't work, when update??" posts and reassure people, as well as preserve Don and DM's sanity: IMVULite, Deep Client and T3 should all still be working - you just have to re-install them.

• 1. Update IMVU.
• 2. Re-install IMVULite/Deep Client/T3DE.
• 3. It will work again.

Whenever you update IMVU, it essentially replaces all of the files - which means it also replaces and removes your Mafias client of choice. (IMVULite isn't broken, it's just not there anymore.) Conversely, your Mafias client 'replaces' some of your IMVU files - at least that's the easiest way to explain it. This means you must re-install your Mafias client over IMVU each and every time you update IMVU. Or - and what I recommend: Don't update IMVU until the next Mafias client update is ready.

I don't know how many people will read this, but it might be worth a temporary pin.

I just want to clarify that you do not need to follow these instructions if you do not update. If you're currently using IMVULite and you haven't updated, then you are fine and don't need to do anything.

Also, I would like to point out that this only applies to people who install IMVULite (or any of our clients) in the default location IMVU wants you to. If you customize the install location, the vanilla client WILL NOT override your Mafia client.

In fact, I highly recommend customizing the install location not only to prevent updates from deleting it but also to allow you to have multiple classic clients installed at the same time. I have tutorial for this HERE

The more you know! I actually didn't know changing the file path stops this happening, but now you've said it (and I've written this), that.. actually makes a ton of sense. Thank you!!

It might not fix the current incompatibilities with the latest IMVU update vs Mafias clients, but this will save me a bunch of work in the future. Well, a few minutes of work and having to re-create a shortcut at least. I don't think many people read this, but even if next to no one saw (or sees) it, I'll considering it a success from learning something new myself. :D
