Is it possible to create an imvu along the lines of Meredian

@blueDay I suppose so. Indeed, programming a client to be connected to multiple resources would be much more complex especially if the technologies used on the servers were to differ.

yes, so the idea is to NOT do it that way, i.e., using different server technologies.

the imvu client communicates with the server using XMLRPC. this is a standard client-server technology, already available.

basically, the client makes a call with a product ID, and the server responds by sending the product data. i believe each product is like a CFL file.

now, let's say the client were h4c|<7d to look at the product ID, and if it's a "special" one (i.e., in a 'white list' file on the HDD), then RPC instead to a mafia server...

on the client side, only the URL of the server gets changed, i.e., from the URL of vu's server to the URL of the mafia server.

in this way, the changes to the imvu client are pretty minimal.

the labor is in coding the mafia server to 'emulate' some of the imvu server for product delivery. (i think Don Von knows a lot about this already).

the mafia server doesn't need to fully imitate the imvu server -- just support the minimal calls to deliver a product.

and the mafia server doesn't need to authenticate, because it doesn't say "oh, you don't have AP... no goodies for you"... it just says: "here are your BM goodies".

as you say, it's easy to underestimate the work... devil is in the details, etc.

but it might be easier than we think, and this approach would solve lots of problems all at once.

@cl4rckk3nt just as I imagined, unfortunately support for meredian has come to an end.

@IndyGeno78

does this mean support for meredian or just for the "launcher"?

i can still connect to meredian and there are events in meredian world planned for the upcoming weeks.

@blueDay
on the blog post only the launcher is specifies, but I imagine that as a result the whole contextual environment will gradually be dropped as well. Also because the way it's working, or rather, the way it isn't working suggests this.

This has always been my issue with IMVU as a company, at least since they changed management. I want to say 2016 onwards? It's completely hypocritical. I've never agreed with their unallowing of anything "too sexual", visible arousal, etc, but I get it - it allows them more breathing room when it comes to rules and regs, investors, where they can show ads and such.

What I take issue with is being an AP member and having things in an AP-only space - AFTER paying for that adult privilege, only to get a slap on the wrist, or worse, because you had something in text form that could potentially be considered sexual or offensive. (I swear they have a legitimate hatred to the term "BBW" if my old rooms were anything to go by.) Meanwhile you can report someone for genuinely heinous shit, who have multiple accounts, with photographic and flaggable evidence ..and they only get a slap on the wrist.

You're literally punished for being a mature adult, despite paying and/or verifying you're an adult. It's ridiculously backwards and their leniency is just inconsistent. People are punished for the most minor, innocuous and petty things or "nAuGhTy wOrds" while genuinely disturbing stuff or very problematic people seem to get away with murder across multiple accounts.

I haven't had any issuesd with this tbh. Is news to me to hear that people get hit with punishment for being explicit in their own AP room. Crazy

its there way to seem like there supporting the family friendly rating....so they can get less pressure from family groups about teenagers being on imvu.

They have to be at a loss and doing it purely on (loose) morals. I can't see any way it doesn't hurt them, outside of looking like they're trying to uphold some kind of standard to third parties or investors. It's condradicting to the whole point of AP though.

@Xacto

I don't think you can get told off for lewding in an AP room (maybe now, given how stupid their standards and pettyness have become?), but I know from experience they will warn and strike you for the description of an AP room, no matter how mild or unassuming it is. In their own words, "public rooms descriptions cannot contain anything inappropriate for GA audiences" ..including AP rooms. Biggest "bruh" moment I ever had on there.
