I've been wanting to implement something like the daily free spin IMVU has but due to a bunch of a technical issues and lack of free time I haven't been able to build it.

That said, we don't want to build too many games that reward medits. We want people to be active on the forums socializing and creating. That's why aside from the lottery, posting on the forums is the highest earning method.

Thoughts?

yup, something like the free spin on imvu. would be good anough just thought this might be fun and give members one more way to earn medits.. although a free-spin or slots its similar to the lottery since i guess both would be in the gambling category?. also i think this can be a method to promote more activity. for an example; u can play the lottery, but ull have to wait till the draw numbers come out. free-spin or slots, a member can play this aslong as they have medits(pushing them to post more on the forums)with a chance to win even more medits with-in seconds tho.

i do understand this may require sometime to implement and im sure you and Don has other things in the works & are busy. but this is here just in-case free-time spawns i would like to read others thoughts on this aswel.

If I was able to build something like the free spin it would only be usable once per day. Otherwise I'd have to come up with a way to make it so you can't abuse the system by getting a few medits then winning the slots over and over.

Abuse protection was one of the largest technical issues I couldn't find a good way to overcome. I don't know of any good way to prevent access to something more than once a day. The way we currently implement the 24hr daily login limit causes some issues with people outside the United States so I don't want to use that.

The other technical issue I had was getting animations to play before the reward code was ran.


This is still on the table but this month is jam packed already. I'm currently writing up a post detailing everything I have planed for this month. It's fairly large.

I like the idea ... reminds me of when we use to have a flash arcade to spend / win medits. Sadly, Flash is obsolete ... we need to find a HTML5 / JavaScript based game engine library if we plan on making games. The last thing we want is to try to do it in vanilla HTML5 / JavaScript. I'd probably go with GDevelop, BabylonJS; preferably GDevelop: https://gdevelop-app.com/

I don't think simple things like the daily spin should be built off a game engine. "Real" games sure.

Are you sure a slot machine is that simple? Above, you were listing all kinds of problems and issues in your way.

Does IMVU use a game engine for the daily spin? I believe it's just javascript animations with ajax.

mmhm, trust i have tunnel vision lol i can see how many hiccups this project can give u along the way. but no worries, maybe we will see this feature in the future for imvu mafias .

very interesting. i think the idea of coding games with > html5 are awesome!
