I guess imvu has done it with a strategy which eventually bit them in their backs...they showed it as 18+ games but it was normal game in a testing version ..maybe they are the one who started adult stuff through their employees and devs ?? Sounds like a conspiracy theory

I found Vu through ads, it's funny that I didn't find the sexual simulator they promised

I joined after seeing tons of ads on YouTube (remember when YT had those banner and sidebar ads?) in my teens. My mother had been on SL for a while by that point, so I kinda knew about virtual worlds from that and her and decided to give it a try. Didn't really know what to expect, figured it was kind of a horny thing, but pleasantly surprised to find it just kind of it's own social thing and got almost immediately hooked.

It's why it's such a shame VU has become what it has. I've made some amazing friends on there over my life and had a ton of great memories. Seeing it as a shadow of what it once was just feels kinda bad. Then again, I know part of that is also nostalgia for the best years of my life, in every aspect. I think SL has gone in a similar direction, but more due to a lack of users these days, rather than bad management.

omg i remember seeing banner ads on DeviantArt and youtube i think? some of the ones i remember said stuff like "find your Bella" or "meet your soulmate" saw gift cards for it in EBgames (gamestop)..not sure what made me finally join it other than boredom and uhh i made a male account at the time lol but never went back on it after making it lol only decided to come back after watching clips of catfish the tv on youtube during the pandemic and haven't left since lol

I found vu through a friend in 3rd grade (LMFAO) I remember looking it up and not signing up because the trailer made it seem like it was a sex game. I ended up signing up a few years later and my suspicions were confirmed.

Actually I did not sign myself up. When I lost my hubby 2007 (God bless his soul) a good friend of mine sign me up, and gave it to me. She said I could start to make a shop in imvu. coz she knows i love playing with photoshop.... never knew that it was a dating site of some sort. So this starts my vu life.
