This tutorial will teach you how to install more than one IMVU classic client on the same computer running Windows.

Why is this useful?

When you have multiple clients installed, you can do things like:
  • Test out a new version of IMVU without losing your current version.
  • Easily switch between IMVULite, T3DE and the Deep client without having to reinstall them.
  • Run different clients at the same time with Sandboxie

Useful Information

  • Each client will share the same account information. For example, if you tell IMVU to remember your password and automatically log in, each client is going to log into the same account. If you want to use different accounts you must not tell IMVU to remember your password.
  • Unless you use a program like Sandboxie, only 1 client can be running at one time.

Tutorial

  1. Install your first client. (Note: If you already have a client installed that you want to keep, skip to the next step.
  2. Open the folder on your computer where your first client is installed. You can do this by opening the run dialog by pressing the
    Windows Key
    +
    R
    and then copy/pasting
    %appdata%
    into it and clicking OK.

  3. In this folder, find the folder called IMVUClient.

  4. Rename this folder to something meaningful using this template
    IMVUClient-{NEW NAME}
    . Replace
    {NEW NAME}
    with something that describes the client. For example: If the client is IMVULite, rename the folder to
    IMVUClient-Lite
    , or for T3DE
    IMVUClient-T3
    , etc..

    Examples:

  5. Finally, we're going to create a shortcut to this client so you can easily open it from your desktop.
    1. Open the folder you just renamed
    2. Right click on the IMVUClient.exe file
    3. Click show more options (Note: If you're using Windows 10, skip this step)

    4. Click create shortcut
      2024-11-12_101746.png
    5. Copy your newly created shortcut to your desktop

    6. Rename the shortcut to something that represents the client, such as imvu lite, or imvu t3de, etc..
  6. After you've created and renamed your shortcut, repeat this tutorial for each client you want to install.

Yes! I love this tutorial. Been using this ever since you gave it to me over skype.

I've been showing it to T3DE users so they can continue to update every week and still have T3DE access.
