I have the urge to eat my lunch now, while reading the forum and learning something. Wow, this Jimmy John's sandwich is good... it's called the "Gargantuan" with tons of genoa salami, sliced smoked ham, capicola, roast beef, turkey & provolone, jammed into homemade French buns then smothered with onions, mayo, lettuce, tomato, & homemade Italian dressing... + regular Pepsi. :)

@Darkest Fantasy: Nah... I was once afraid of dogs after watching a movie, "Cujo" and also hearing news of vicious dogs mangling people... not all dogs behave like that anyway. Over time, I got desensitized from fear of dogs by repeated exposure. Same as humans, there are good people and there are bad people. I also enjoy watching Disney Channel's "Dog with a Blog." :)

"Same as humans"....you had a fear of humans? or you got desensitized to humans over time?

I have the urge to...pack a suitcase and go south until this damn winter is finally over.

@ AttachedToTheC4 -- what's the name of your electronic robotic thingamabob going to be?

I have to urge to post to this specific thread so that I could explain some stuff lengthily and earn more Medits. :)

"In psychology, desensitization is defined as the diminished emotional responsiveness to a negative or aversive stimulus after repeated exposure to it. It also occurs when an emotional response is repeatedly evoked in situations in which the action tendency that is associated with the emotion proves irrelevant or unnecessary. Desensitization is a process primarily used to assist individuals unlearn phobias and anxieties and was developed by psychologist Mary Cover Jones. Joseph Wolpe (1958) developed a method of a hierarchal list of anxiety evoking stimuli in order of intensity, which allows individuals to undergo adaption. Although medication is available for individuals suffering from anxiety, fear or phobias, empirical evidence supports desensitization with high rates of cure, particularly in clients suffering from depression or schizophrenia." (Wikipedia)

Thus, desensitization is a technique to reduce fears, phobias, and anxiety.

For instance, let us say, you are generally afraid of dogs, regardless they are good or bad. You could use "desensitization" techniques to reduce fear of dogs. You don't get desensitized to dogs.

Sorry for the confusion, when I stated "same as humans," some people are afraid of certain groups of people, like: Sinophobia (fear of Chinese); Italophobia (fear of Italians); Japanophobia (fear of Japanese); Negrophobia (fear of Black people); Xenophobia (fear of strangers or foreigners), etc.

In fact, there is a fear of people, called "anthropophobia." Wiktionary defines it as, “A profound fear of human beings, or of human society.” Wikipedia adds, “An extreme, pathological form of shyness and timidity…it may manifest as… awkwardness and uneasiness when appearing in society. Like most phobias, anthropophobia can be traced back to traumatic experiences.”

You use desensitization techniques to address and reduce the negative reactions of fear and anxiety. You don't get desensitized to humans.

Whew! That's a long explanation. :)

I have the urge to take Gr8bugaly's wiki and ask Kingoflightning to take it and hide it as well. LOL

I have the urge to look for my wiki that has been missing since 02/12/14, and I have no idea where I left it. I haven't given up looking for it. I better resume searching for my wiki "wiki wiki" (Hawaiian for '"quick"). If unsuccessful, I'll log in IMVU and look for a "wiki" (a promiscuous female) to christen my new private chat room; or go to one of the dancing club chat rooms and be a DJ scratching a record back and forth on a turntable, "wiki wiki wiki..." ROFL.

I have the urge to welcome Sir D.M escorting a "wench" towards my direction. Apparently, DF yelled across the hall, "please give Gr8 a visit and make sure you bring a wrench." DM wasn't clear about DF's request. DM wasn't sure if he heard DF right, whether to bring a wrench or a wench. DM was aware that I was "mechanically inclined" fixing hand-held mechanical thingies. He was also aware that DF would be sending referrals to me to help damsels in distress and have their BOB (battery operated boyfriends) repaired. So, DM brought with him a micro-tool wrench and a wench. :)
