Wasn't sure where to post this, but i think this is the right place. Considering i was a part of crackers who used to work against "hackers", i can provide anyone with assistance against any attempts of being h4c|<7d. Along with computer engineering skills might be able to remotely fix any issues you might face (software/hardware).
Here you can find a helpful guide of some softwares that'll keep you safe unless things get uglier.
First: Precaution
clicking random links might infect your system with a keylogger or a virus.
What is a keylogger? It's a very simple program that sometimes cannot be caught by anti viruses.
How it works? Fairly simple, as soon as it is on the victims computer and key you press on the keyboard it is saved in a log along with websites you visit. And then send all that nformation to the owner of the keylogger by email. So he get access to everything you did.
How to avoid getting infected?
don't click random links from people or websites you don't trust. Some websites download viruses in the background without you knowing or your permission just by visiting it.
You can always check websites for possible threats by visiting http://www.virustotal.com and paste the url in there.
Second: Be ready
Being ready is the best way to have your defenses up against any possible threats. For that you need to have few programs in total. Here is a list:
1. A Good Anti Virus. Mostly i would go for Norton Security Suite 360. Doesn't mean other anti viruses are bad. each one has it's capabilities. So pick your favorite.
2. A Firewall, yes, anti viruses firewall kinda suck sometimes, and windows firewall is the worst. So you need to have front line defense and a long range defense.
Your front line is your anti virus firewall. The long range defense is the downloaded firewall in addition to the anti virus. Anything goes through the anti virus surely your other firewall will catch and block.
I suggest downloading comodo firewall, its free and easy to use. http://Www.comodo.com/home/internet-sec ... rewall.php
3. Anti virus programs 95% of the time cannot catch malwares and keyloggers and other harmful programs. So to make sure you got best protection, you need two different programs. One is called Malwarebytes it's free and picks up all malwares in your system. Download from http://www.MalwareBytes.org no need to pay for the full version, the free basic one is way too good already. The 2nd program is SpyBot, anything that spying in your system like keyloggers, cookies or anything else can be caught by this program. It can be downloaded from http://www.safer-networking.org get the home user
4. A clean registry is a healthy computer. To keep your registry clean and safe plus fixing any issues that might get corrupted by downloading a program and uninstall lateron, you need to have CCleaner. It is a good PC optimization and Cleaning program. To download go to http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Now your defenses are up and ready, even if you click a link that might be harmful for your computer it will be caught Most probably. If not, running a weekly scans through anti virus, Malwarebytes and spybot will surely clean up your system and you will be safe.
If you need any further help using any of those programs or if you suspect being infected and none of those programs was able to fix your problem leave me a comment here and i can remotely check up your system and fix any issues. Hope this little guide is helpful.
P.S: don't mind any spelling errors, smartphones arent the best place to type guides.
