I’m looking to buy a new laptop or PC, I’ve looked around and found a few that I like but some of them come without an operating system leaving you free to choose whatever you want to use. I’ve only ever used Windows so I don’t know what it’s like to use anything else :tlaconcerned:

I’ll mostly be using it for GIMP/MS Paint, IMVU. and a bucket load of Gaming.

What other operating systems could I use or which is the best?

Windows, Linux etc.

Thanks for your opinions!

Windows is your only real option then. While you can game on other operating systems such as Linux and Mac you're gonna have a better experience on Windows due to having a much larger variety of games to pick from as well as the ability to play older titles and use emulators.

As for IMVU, everything I've ever heard says that IMVU runs best on Windows but I have no first hand experience with that aside from running it on Linux years ago before it was supported.

I agree...since you are a gamer ...windows is your best option...but make sure that you get the highest memory that you can buy...

8gb is more than enough if all you do is game. You could even get away with 4gb. Personally, I won't go below 16gb and I prefer 20gb+. My new rig has 16 whereas my old one has 24. But I do a lot more than game.

Thanks for all your input, I appreciate it, I would have probably gone with Windows regardless as that's what I'm used to, it was simple because the laptop didn't come with an OS that it sparked me to think about it.

And yeah, I've had 8gb's of ram and it was plenty, but I still felt lacking at some points, the one I'm looking at has 16gb, I could probably get a better system at the same price, like custom built by someone, but I'll be buying on credit so it's only limited to their site, aha!

I'd balance it out between 3 things You will need a good cpu a good ammount of ram and good graphics card if you balance all 3 of those together you will be able to play highend games you will be able rune multiple software at the same time. Things will open up faster and you will overall see less lag on imvu and everything my recommendation is

gtx 750 for your GPU
8gbs or more depends on the task your doing

and for GPU id go i7 for Intel and AMD i'm not familiar with.

lintel recently had a kernel breech so they might be a little slower when the update comes out :( so bigger the CPU the better.

I can also recommend razor computers and or republic of gaming. both okay prices, but cheaper to build yourself and it isn't hard.

Windows all the way, purely from the gaming point of view. Linux would be my second pick based on what others have told me and such, but it will making (digital) life so much easier to just stick with Windows. While I appreciate that Macs are the industry-standard for artists, I personally always preferred Windows, even for Photoshop and Illustrator. (Sadly, they had Macs as work, back when I was a graphic designer.)

Good luck whichever way though, dude! May your new PC be awesome and powerful! :rockout:

Windows is good for games, if you're a producer or anything similar, get yourself a mac, windows is capable of running artists' programs but I think the mac is kinda overpriced

I haven't ever used anything else but Windows out of those three but I would definitely go with Windows. Simply because of bucket load of gaming you mentioned, I mean very often I hear from some of my friend on discord group chat where they would ask questions like "Do they have it on Mac?" like things would be so much simpler on Windows because pretty much every game are on them already, on Mac you might be missing out on some stuff, not just games but some programs might only be on Windows, so you would save yourself a lot of effort finding some program variants that doesn't exist on mac haha.
