Lifestyle Markets

Below will be some information about Lifestyle (BDSM related) Markets and Lounges

Lifestyle Markets and Lounges are a common theme on IMVU. I personally own and mod multiple of such chat rooms. From my time in these Markets and Lounges I have seen many different people come and go, and seen many with a misunderstanding of the etiquette commonly expected in these rooms.

Stating Your Status

When entering most Markets and Lounges you will be required to "State your Status" upon loading in.
The requirements that the room owner and mods give as for the contents of your status can go from general "Title" to "Name,Age,Status, and what/if you are seeking."

Personally in my Markets/Lounges I require the latter.

Your status: Titles that can be used are, Dom, Domme, and Submissive for the most basic of Titles. More specific ones include, Master, Mistress, Sadistic Dom, Daddy Dom, Mommy Dom, Little, and Slave just to name a few.

Seeking: You can tell the room patrons what you seek. If you are a Dominant seeking a Submissive...of course say that...but if you are not seeking, that is 100% okay!

Example of a Status:John Doe,21,Sadistic Dominant, currently seeking a Masochistic Submissive.

Etiquette:

Lifestyle rooms can be strict or pretty lenient on their expectations for room etiquette. But the same general rules apply.

- Basic human respect to all patrons
- ABSOLUTELY NO FORCE COLLARING
- Only occupy the space appropriate. (sometimes there are specific spaces for doms and subs but not always)
- Just follow the rules of the room...obviously

Most rooms that are Lifestyle related are 18+ for obvious reasons.

Implied consent rooms:

There are rooms that you will find that clearly state "Entry is consent" this is mostly directed at the Submissives entering the room. Especially unowned subs, patrons can play and touch as they please

Can I touch?

General rules for who you can touch/play with in Lifestyle rooms are mostly universal. (discounting implied consent rooms) If a submissive is spoken for, they are not to be touched unless formerly specified by their owner. Submissives are generally not to touch Dominants who have a Sub in their care, as that is entirely inappropriate.

Submissives under room protection?
In some rooms you will find that there are choice submissives under the protection of the room and the room owner. They are a special case, as the Owner and Mods can dictate who can play with them. However, it is more common for a singular Dominant to have a Submissive under protection.

What is with the thrones?

Thrones are a common piece of furniture in Lifestyle rooms. They are commonly reserved only for the room owner and sometimes also for the mods. Regular patrons are not to sit in them, as that can usually result in an automatic boot without a warning. (some of us Doms are egotistical dicks)

Can I buy services?

There are some Markets and Lounges that offer escort services. Ask about prices if you are not initially given them. Payment can be credits, gifts,
or even other services from the consumer.
Some rooms will even charge you to stay. If you do not wish to pay, dont stay!
PAY FOR PLAY, OR DONT STAY

Why was I booted?

Most of the same rules for more regular rooms apply for being booted. Along with these, sitting in throne without permission, touching what is not yours, forced collaring, ect.
Some mods as in any other room can boot you just because they are cranky or annoyed. Even though that should not be supported, it is common.

What about "Gorean" rooms?

Okay, so Gor is a whole new carpet to unravel. Gor comes from a book series by John Norman,(pen name of John Frederick Lange, Jr.) a professor of Philosophy. As of the time of typing this, (December, 2018) there are 34 books.
As for Gor itself, it can be said (loosely) that it someone a cousin of BDSM, an adaptation if you will. Gorean Philosophy (as I currently understand it in my limited knowledge) is that you can be a Free: Master or Mistress, or a Slave. In Gor, there is no such thing as a Switch, while they are quite common in BDSM. Gor and BDSM have a lot of differences; in Gor, what we refer to in BDSM as Forced Collaring (BIG NO NO IN BDSM) in Gor it does not exist. You can collar any slave. (in most Gorean practices you can collar any Slave, not collared or already collared.) There are people offline who do practice some of the Gorean lifestyle, however they do mostly live online. The Goreans have their own way of saying things. I do not want to label it as a language, as it is mainly English, but they have their own phrases. However if you wish to delve further into it, the Gorean language has 28 characters, while the English language has 26. "Tal" is their most common form of greeting. If you wish to learn more about the language, visit: http://www.gor-now.net/delphius2002/id20.htm

In fact, visit http://www.gor-now.net/delphius2002/id3.htm or http://www.goreanscribe.org/ if you wish to learn about Gor. Or look up the Gorean Library room on IMVU, they have the books in readable format in the room. (not yet working for IOS or Mobile) but working fine on most PCs.

Advice for entering Gorean rooms: It is best not to enter if you do not have at the very least a basic knowledge of the Books of Gor. (this small passage not counting.) I would recommend reading at least the first book before you enter, as not many Goreans are willing to take the time to share their knowledge. (at least as far as I have seen.)
Dressing the part is also a good idea. Search "Gorean" in the shop if you really want to make a somewhat positive first impression. (DO NOT ENTER AS A FURRY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES) The Gorean people on IMVU pride themselves on their Rolephaying, so please be literate in your Roleplays, or you will surely be booted.
Even I, Graves, was almost booted from a Gorean room when I was trying to learn a bit about them just because of my tagline and interests section of my profile.
Just like in BDSM, you will find progressives, elitists, and all kinds of people in between. Just be respectful, and you will find people willing to help you, and invite you in.

I, Graves, do not personally permit many (if any) Goreans into my Markets and/or Lounges for the simple fact that it has caused drama in the past and I wish to avoid that. I am fine with their practices as long as nothing illegal is being done. I just no longer allow Goreans to stay and teach in my rooms.

Market Families

Market families are also quite common. I (Graves) personally run one of these such families. Most families are invite only, and you are put of a trial period for family membership. If you are accepted, that can result in being granted modship or just a higher status in the "home market." Well known families include: The Forbidden Family, The Apocalypse Family, The Leviathan Family(disbanded for now), Occult Family(disbanded for now) The Apocalypse Family and of course others. If you have any you want added, feel free to comment them.

Unrecommended Lifestyle Markets and/or Lounges

- Dom's Paradise (implied consent room)
- Suffocation
- ..::UNHOLY SIN MARKET::..
- ..::SINFUL PLAYGROUND MARKET::..
- ::HEATHENS::

Why was this market put in the Unrecommended section?

I may have put markets in the Unrecommended section for a multitude of reasons. Some because they are unethical, or because they might not even really understand the lifestyle. If it is not an Implied Consent room, it may be for the reckless touching of patrons who are unwilling to play. Forced collaring with no repercussions from the mods or staff will also land a Lifestyle Market or Lounge in this category as well.

I want to learn about the Lifestyle...but how?

If you wish to learn about the lifestyle, research is your best bet. Read up on the topic or even visit your local sex shop, they will usually be happy to assist you with information. If you are really adventurous, seek out a local BDSM Dungeon or club, there will usually be someone there who will be happy to help with whatever you need. If you are looking for information on IMVU, there is a room called Lifestyle Awareness (AP room) that can help you. The owners are very experienced and usually happy to help.

Hope this helped. There will be additions in the future, but this is a basic guide.

Thank you,
Graves

How do you know what your status is?

That is based on your personality

Like Jane Smith said, it is based on your personality. There is a room called Lifestyle Awareness (it is an AP room) and the owners could help you see if BDSM is for you. I am good friends with them.

Another thing, look up BDSM Quiz. A lot of people use it for fun, but it can be helpful when getting your start and trying to understand who you are or if the Lifestyle is even for you.

If you would like some information on the lifestyle, feel free to message me.

This is a really great thread! I'm curious about Lifestyle and BDSM specifically. Knowing some basic guidelines for going into markets is so helpful. When I first started exploring (not too long ago) I was really ignorant and I think I annoyed a lot of people. This thread has some stuff I learned on my own and other information I didn't know. Definitely going to come back to this thread when I have questions.

Gotta love the boot happy kinksters. This is a great post. I wish I had seen this when I first joined imvu lol I joined a market and was asked for status. I said single :kat_emoji1: *boot*
Second room i joined, there was a small group and they were very kind and patient. They explained how markets in imvu work.
