Using wireshark to track down other IMVU players in real life use to be extremely easy. IMVU use to contain a built in flash based voice chat app, which created a connection between yourself and anyone else in the room using the voice chat. Via these connections, you could use wireshare to sniff out their ip, and track them via whois and geolocation services.
However, after IMVU removed built-in voice chat, the IMVU client no longer created any player 2 player connections during chats. A normal IMVU chat is a simple player 2 server 2 player connection ... the jump to the server masking connections to other players, like a proxy.
Now, the only way to crate a player 2 player connection is if you use IMVU products that contain built in flash widgets, and you manage to convince the other player into using the flash widget with you. Note, it must be a multiplayer flash widget which creates a direct player 2 player connection.
I might have overlooked minor features with-in the client; I have not run any tests on walk-off, co-op shopping, nor shared rooms. Also, I have not run any tests on IMVU Mobile, IMVU Next, nor the new Mac version of IMVU. As far as I know though ... everything I have stated is true via the windows desktop version of the IMVU Client, as of 2016 when I last ran extensive data sniffing tests on the IMVU Client.
