IMVU user base has been maturing with age

I have been in IMVU for about a couple of weeks but I've been trying the app for the past 10 years on and off, and I've had a few hiatuses, a few years in total. Each time I have come back after a very long break I have been a little nervous about still belonging in IMVU or not, about still being in the same wavelength with the rest of the user base.

But each time I've discovered that it's actually not a problem at all. I joined IMVU when I was 16 something and the user age range I saw (with ages being divided in 13-17 and 18+ even back then) was about 18-35. Now I'm 30 something and the age range is very commonly 18-50 in both GA and AP. Seeing age verified people older than 50 is not impossible, either. This is what I see while browsing the public rooms.

Seems like now I'm not only a IMVU veteran, but also part of it's maturing user base so I haven't fallen off the ride it seems, but sit in comfortably. While IMVU is often portrayed in quite a childish way in a media such as YouTube, the rest of the user base has zero to little tolerance to such a behavior.

What do you think this sort of development means, and has the staff taken any notice on how it affects the market, demands and overall atmosphere?

Welcome again Aron to the family.
I think everyone gets something out of IMV. Part is what are you looking for? Where are you going when you enter the site? I think each person has an responsibility and accountability for their own time and actions online no matter what site there on. Lets say for here or a private chat. You don't need an avatar to have an AP super rated xxx experience. Many websites are filled with what would be called adult access only sites, but fact is there is no way to keep any age from using a fake ID or a stolen ID or plain Adult family ID other then your own to get access online to places you shouldn't go. I think you know where I'm going with all this. So to target one site I think is a bit favoritism. giggles And last IMV is a money making market just like all the other sites online. so as long as they are making money and your going by there code of conduct and terms of service you have nothing to worry about.

i did saw something once saying that imvu was originally an 18+ game but when they saw that minors were trying to get on it they changed it to 16/17+....i could be wrong :P but yeah...i do find it interesting and a little odd at the same time seeing 50+ year olds on there haha xD but at the same time i understand cuz they're either retired or all of their kids have moved out so they have more time to spare.

@sadecatgirlLast I checked, the game is currently 13+. You've gotta watch out for people whose accounts are 18/19 ... they're often kids sneaking into the adult rooms.

yeah...i am aware that it is currently 13+ and that there are minors trying to get into the 18+ sections :tlaconcerned: big yikes! that's why i dont accept random friend requests and random chat invites. i always take a took at their profile first to see if there's anything....especially if they have AP or age verify. also not to mention all the bots :roll: just another reason on why i dont accept randoms :P

I think if IMV could get the money out of just kids on the site they would kick all adults out, but fact is. Its the adults that keep the money flowing into the site for most part and a big part of dev's are adults so with out there help there be no imv. And I been in some rock rooms where some of these young moms have there lil kids sitting on there lap while they play on imv so you tell me how messed up is that? I been on imv a very long time and like a lot here seen and heard a lot. Sometimes if I think about it I'm shocked to think you can register to a site like this without an ID. I don't see IMV as an teen site, but maybe I'm a little prejudiced because I'm a mom. haha

@Leroufee

i mean it does have a 3 star rating on Common Sense Media with most of the parent reviews giving it an 18+ rating but overall it has a rating of 16+ from parents. while the kids overall rating is 14+.....i mean that is the age where u start puberty but still...u gotta be careful!

<chuckles> I was already over 50 when I first joined VU 14 years ago (this is my second account). What strikes me more than anything is back in the day there were always over 100,000 users online at any given time. Not anymore and I believe that is a direct reflection of IMVU pushing people, especially the older content creator community, away. Call me cynical but I think it's simply to make sure that you HAVE to be VIP to be a CC. No more grandfathered accounts. Too many trumped up DMCA violations or other bans to be otherwise. Of course a lot of the older users simply got tired of not being listened to even though they are/were the cash cows of the site. Can't simply keep ignoring your users without loosing some of them. So IMVU basically HAS to target the younger generations who aren't yet disillusioned with the site or they can shut their doors.
P.S. My friends list is still full of folks my age and older - lol - but it is dwindling.
