Making a video

Hello everyone!

I have a project I've been working towards for a while now, most of it is falling into place finally!
But then I added to what I want to see happen ....

Let me explain what I,'m trying to do.

I want to create a video, or possibly a short movie. Likely for my own personal use, since it's based on something that's very close to my heart... The script has a male lead, and several female characters. I decided when I learned about IMVU, back in November, that it would be a great way of doing what I'm trying to do.
I have a few IMVU accounts, with different characters on each, so my different characters can interact with each other. It's a video concept that involves sex, (that's what brought me here, searching for trigger dicks) but it also involves the scenery itself as well, and the changes the people in the story have gone thru... And some of the hardships. I've figured out how I want to express the story visually. But I never thought further ahead than that.

Then I see the videos on here, like the ones in the trigger dick ads.
Those videos are amazing, and I really want to have my finished product come out looking like them! I'm just not sure how to proceed.

I'd like to get as close to cinematic as possible, and once I have the footage, I can work on the audio.
(I'm planning on having some voice acting, and like any good movie, music to help the feeling of the scenes come to life. That's all easy.

How about the filming though? Originally, I was planning on pointing a video camera at my screen... Is there a better option than that? (Surely, there must be?)

And then, how about the video editing? I don't have the world's best computer right now. In fact, it's just a windows tablet with a keyboard and mouse.... So I can't get any high end software, but it does run windows 10.

Any tips anyone can give me to help me get on my way, I'd be forever grateful for!

And IF this isn't the right place for this post, please let me know, and I'll move it ... But since it's more about making a movie, less about IMVU... it seems to fit here best...

If you've read this far, thank you!!! And I hope to see your suggestions soon!

Firstly, you need to find a stable screen recorder, that will play well with your computer, and not drop your frame rates too drastically. There are many out there, but you will need to try them to see which ones work well with your pc specs. I had people telling me all the ones they thought were the best, and not one of them worked well for me that produced video I liked, it took me finding it on my own. Trial and error my friend, but look up screen recorders. Start there. Pointing a real cam at your pc screen will look as if you bootlegged your video. Happy searching! :awesome20:

All of the videos on our market are made be either myself,
@NekaLion
,
@Datamine
, or
@SwagGod
.

When I create videos, I use software called AVS Video Editor. I configure the video recorder to match the FPS and resolution I plan on exporting the video as. Edit. Add effects and transitions. Add music. Add watermarks. Export as webm.

I'm sure that I've seen some of your videos at this point. It's impossible for me to know which one of you did which videos, but all of the ones I've seen are amazing, so you're definitely skilled!!! I appreciate the tip on using AVS video editor! I'm going to start learning more about it ASAP!

Mine tend to be elaborate, because I don't know how to do anything easy lol. But Some people use Fraps, bandicam, adobe, avs, there is another one that others love that looks like it has a bdsm symbol lol, I think its called OBS. I personally hated them all, so I can't give advice on them. I use Sony vegas Pro's screen recorder. HOWEVERRRR, I will say that the others are light weight on most pcs, and will be easy to use./figure out. Most things I use are very difficult for beginners to use so I wouldn't recommend them just starting out. :awesome14:

I use OBS for recording my clips. It's also very popular for streamers and YouTubers. I'm not into BDSM so I don't know what their symbols look like, never put much thought into it though. It had a small learning curve but the features are really nice and best of all it's free.

What didn't you like about it? :tla-think:

For editing the clips, I use Davinci Resolve.

Well I didn't give it a super fair shake. I couldn't figure it out in a matter of mins, it annoyed me, I put it down and never picked it back up, since I found another one that was "easy" to use and was part of another program. So I guess my issue was that I couldn't figure it out fast enough. I needed it fast at the time, because fraps was failing me so bad.

I will say that fraps was super easy to use, but something terrible happened to it. It may have been that the devs stopped updating the software. But it was no longer a front runner for me. I loved it because it had was very light weight. But later on it became very heavy and videos became lower quality.

Ah, well, trying to pick up something new quickly isn't usually the best approach. I can teach you what I've learned thus far if you'd like.

I haven't used fraps in good while. It used to be the go to back in the day but now I think it's been relegated to history for the most part.

If I ever need another one I will take you up on that offer :awesome15: Because I didn't get that one at all lol. Fraps was easy, just click point and shoot lol. But I noticed that each screen recorder has different levels of quality. Unfortunately for me I have been making vids so long that I can see each level of pixilation, and the more there are the more of a twitch I get :awesome2: I am curious to see if OBS can out do vegas. That happens sometimes, where the free one is better than the paid one.

Not sure about the quality, I find it good enough for what I do. It having more features is one of the reasons I use it. For example, I use the crop/pad filter to remove UI elements such as the header and name bar in the client when I record, that way I have less work to do when editing the video.

I also use it when I stream to have overlays and what not since you not only can pick from many input sources but also have more than one selected at the same time.

Of course it being free, still in development and being widely popular with streamers and content creators is why I chose it.
