IMVU seems to have a REST API (for listing rooms, occupants etc.) at https://api.imvu.com/ - does anyone know where the docs are? I've asked IMVU and they don't know, lol!

I think there used to be a developer portal at https://developer.imvu.com/ but that URL just redirects to the Next homepage now...

Any pointers to any docs would be appreciated.

TIA,
Andy

Use a dummy account and VPN when hitting the API if you plan on high traffic requests. Otherwise, throttle your requests to the speed of a normal user. IMVU has a rules against bots and will ban you for hitting the API's if they think you are botting it. As for documentation, there is none officially, because they don't want you doing it.

The following mafiosos on discord know how to hit them:

Or, you can ask chatGPT how to do it.

That portal was for Unity developers, back when IMVU had it's own unity library for third party developers to make video games that utilized IMVU's avatars. Back then, you could make your own video games and load your IMVU outfit / avatar into the games as a playable character. IMVU discontinued unity support and closed the API's to the public. Anyone who tries to tap into those API's with frequency now gets banned. A few attempts have been made to resurrect the library ... but developers have issues when IMVU staff steps in to stop them.

Thanks for the response. I asked ChatGPT, but it said I need to get a developer access token or some such from the https://developer.imvu.com/ site. I'll certainly check out the Discord channel.

In the meantime, looks like I will have to capture the traffic while I use IMVU and work it all out from first principles!

You can no longer get an official token from IMVU, but there are ways to generate one programmatically. Talk to the people I mentioned, they have a script that can get you the token needed.

I highly recommend wireshark for that.

Yes, thanks, that's what I use. If I get anywhere with this stuff, I 'll set up a github repo for it.

try to google "api.imvu.com" and "user" (with the quotation marks).

you'll find some other projects to try and use the API. might be helpful.

meanwhile, as Don says: wireshark
