Run a VPN to hide / change your ip address. I use Nord VPN.
Be careful though. If your IP address is jumping all over the place ... that can cause IMVU to lock your account till you provide proof of identity / ownership over the account.

I have an extension on my broswer that when I activate it slows down the speed quite a bit

No, my VPN allows me to choose which countries I route through. If one country slows down, then I route through a different one.
