How Do Product Charges Work?

It's something I've wondered for a while, after one of my 'failed' BM products ran out of charges, despite me only ever using the thing twice. Conversely, another of my products ran out of charges today - again, one of my lesser-used, but one I still use nontheless. The latter was a DIY though, so it's not like other people are using that came 'community' or pre-dev product. Which brings me to the question: How do charges actually work?

Obviously I recharged the latter, no issue. But it had me curious.

Charges are deducted when you load a product into the room, or when someone else loads the product by joining the room. The deduction logic has a cool down to prevent it from being unfair or abused by bad actors. So you don't have to worry about loosing charges if your products are loaded often within a short time frame.

Charges are also deducted by our server periodically as a security and monetization method but for obvious reasons I can't go into more details. I will say though that for a regular user, it would take over a year for the server to deduct all your charges this way so it's not something you need to be concerned about. It mostly affects resellers.

Off topic: I moved this thread to the help & Support section.

EDIT:

I just remembered we were doing some work on the part of our server that handled the periodic charge deduction and had to test it frequently, so this means charges were drained a lot faster than they would normally. If

is okay with it, I can modify the charges on your products to give you some back.

Thanks for the insight! It was just curiosity more than anything. I was under the understanding you had to recharge things roughly once per-year anyway and it helps pay for the site by costing $1-2. It's totally fine by me, but it got the cogs in my mind turning.

I assume the recent work was probably what drained my stuff (went from 100 to 0, proverbially speaking), but it's all good. I recharged the product and it's back to 11k. (Others at ay 50k something.) It'll take me an age to deplete that, so you don't need to reimburse me. Even divided by two. I still appreciate the offer, though!

If you really insist, just toss me 100 medits or something and I'll toss 'em into the bank. ..or rig the lottery for me. (Kidding, of course.)
