It would prove interesting if IMVU incorporated an actual interactive quality to attacks, but then the developers would likely be hard pressed as it would probably involve setting location specific triggers and hotspots (basically killzones) for the attacks since magic and weaponry (and even hand to hand combat) have such varying ranges and graphics. For instance, the difference in killzones between say, a dagger thrust to lobbing a grenade to firing a pistol to an avatar centered shockwave. The possibilities are endless, and it would create a dramatic upheaval in how IMVU interactions are done. I don't support killing in IMVU much, considering it's nature as an IM based community, but to have other avatars actually react to an attack would prove interesting to say the least. Sparring would finally be realistic instead of two (or more) avatars spamming attacks in close proximity.
