Something else that might help... until the computer is free of the virus... STAY OFF THE INTERNET! While you're connected that gives the virus plenty of room to download more viruses, hackers plenty of room to set up more shit on your computer, and the virus can send anything it gets its hands on to anyone it's programmed to. Run in safe mode and disconnect from the internet. When I do scans on my own computer i disable my wireless adapter and I don't do anything other than run the scans, I kill every program I can before I do this.
Honestly, also, I'd say look into getting the following programs on your computer and learning how to use them. Everything I list is free and I personally use it to protect my computer. A simple google search should find it all.
Avast - best free antivirus on the market. if you have a paid for antivirus, forget this.
MalewareBytes Anti-Maleware - most virus protection programs ONLY look for VIRUSES, not MALEWARE, which are things that can also fuck up your computer through setting up back doors for hackers, or simply keylogging or something.
HijackThis! - a program that will run and tell you details of EVERYTHING that is running on your computer, even the shit the Task Manager doesn't notice.
CCleaner - For ditching your cookies.
Spybot! Search & Destroy - Watches for changes made to your computer, searches for spybots put into your computer, and in general keeps things running smoothly. This one is good because it even checks itself (for instance, you tell Spybot S&D to delete a certain number of discovered threats, it will ask you individually to verify each one after you tell it to delete stuff, can get really fucking annoying if you have to delete some 100 or so items, but it's worth iy)
Also, you should find some good help forums to help you with these programs as well as others that may help. Particularly for say, HijackThis!, it just gives you a log of everything, it doesn't tell you whether it's good or bad, you need an expert to check it. I usually use the Avast help forums for all of that, they saved my ass several times in the past.
Hope this all helps!
