Below you will find tutorials for installing the IMVU Exporter for different versions of 3ds Max. Check below to find the tutorial matching your version of 3ds Max.


3ds Max 7
Step 1: Download the exporter files from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/hh2ql ... ds+Max.zip
Step 2: Open the zip file you downloaded in step 1.
Step 3: Open the 3ds Max 7 folder.
Step 4: Open the "Official IMVU Exporter" folder.
Step 5: Right-click on "cal3d.dll" and select copy.
Step 6: Open your 3ds Max install folder. Your install folder can be found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\" or "C:\Program Files\".
Step 7: Paste the "cal3d.dll" file inside that folder. Make sure you do not put it inside any sub folders.
Step 8: Go back to the "Official IMVU Exporter" folder from Step 4.
Step 9: Right-click on "cal3d_max_exporter.dle" and select copy.
Step 10: Go back to your 3ds Max install folder from step 6.
Step 11: Open the plugins folder inside your 3ds Max folder.
Step 12: Paste the "cal3d_max_exporter.dle" file into that folder.

3ds Max 8 (Official IMVU Exporter)
Step 1: Download the exporter files from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/hh2ql ... ds+Max.zip
Step 2: Open the zip file you downloaded in step 1.
Step 3: Open the 3ds Max 8 folder.
Step 4: Open the "Official IMVU Exporter" folder.
Step 5: Right-click on "cal3d.dll" and select copy.
Step 6: Open your 3ds Max install folder. Your install folder can be found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\" or "C:\Program Files\".
Step 7: Paste the "cal3d.dll" file inside that folder. Make sure you do not put it inside any sub folders.

3ds Max 8 (Nerseus Exporter)

Step 7: Open your 3ds Max install folder. Your install folder can be found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\" or "C:\Program Files\".
Step 8: Paste the "nerseusReleaseIMVUExporterMax2012x86.dll" file inside that folder. Make sure you do not put it inside any sub folders.
Step 9: Go back to the "Nerseus Exporter" folder from Step 4.
Step 10: Right-click on "nerseusReleaseIMVUExporterMax2012x86.dle" and select copy.
Step 11: Go back to your 3ds Max install folder from step 6.
Step 12: Open the plugins folder inside your 3ds Max folder.
Step 13: Paste the "nerseusReleaseIMVUExporterMax2012x86.dle" file into that folder.

3ds Max 2012 (64Bit)

Step 7: Open your 3ds Max install folder. Your install folder can be found in "C:\Program Files (x86)\" or "C:\Program Files\".
Step 8: Paste the "nerseusReleaseIMVUExporterMax2012x64.dll" file inside that folder. Make sure you do not put it inside any sub folders.
Step 9: Go back to the "Nerseus Exporter" folder from Step 4.
Step 10: Right-click on "nerseusReleaseIMVUExporterMax2012x64.dle" and select copy.
Step 11: Go back to your 3ds Max install folder from step 6.
Step 12: Open the plugins folder inside your 3ds Max folder.
Step 13: Paste the "nerseusReleaseIMVUExporterMax2012x64.dle" file into that folder.

3ds Max 2013 & 2014 (32Bit)
Step 1: Download the exporter files from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/hh2ql ... ds+Max.zip
Step 2: Open the zip file you downloaded in step 1.
Step 3: Open the "3ds Max 2013 & 2014" folder.
Step 4: Double click on "Cal3DExp1.5.0 32Bit.exe"
Step 5: Install Cal3DExp1.5.0 32Bit
Step 6: Right-click on the "IMVUCal3DConverter.exe" file and click copy.
Step 7: Paste the "IMVUCal3DConverter.exe" anywhere you want to that will be easy for you to get to.

Once that is done, After exporting files (XSF, XAF, XMF) from Max using the WorldViz exporter, drag/drop files onto IMVUCal3DConverter.exe

The OS can be 64bit, you just have to install the 32bit version 3ds Max.

I don't like using 32bit programs on x64-based machines because they work a bit slower and they lag and freeze sometimes - just my experience i might be wrong.

I looked around and this guy had edited the Cal3d so it supports max 2011/12 (64bit)

I thought I read somewhere that there's an IMVU exporter for 3dsMax 2016? If there is, is it available on IMVU? Or does the FBX Importer cover 3dsMAX 2016? Lot's of questions, I know. There just doesn't seem to be anything out there that's like "Start here." - lol
