I got to hear about a random banner add (something sliding to cover bottom slightly) disguise itself as New imvu next toobar. I have no idea yet where it pops. But 2 of my friends had pretty much auto pilot to use it and in 12 hours their accounts got taken over. Both are in progress to get them back.

But, at least heads up if random pop-up/ad shows up looking a lot like imvu. Is not imvu.

I will try to get a screenshot of it.

I got the screenshot. So it's a copy of the imvu next bar from the top side. What my friend told that it just slide up from the bottom and without thinking he had pressed home witch had lead to "re-login" And by my guessing has led to a fake website to fish the password.

I did ask a full screen but i got a selected screen capture. But, anyways to me it looks like a pretty obvious scam attempt. Right side not loading ? just a bait to click it.

oh almost forgot to say, that it did pop up right after he had closed imvu website. He has no idea where he had gotten it.

Where did these banner ads appear and why did your friends click on them?

I think that screen shot answers that question. They clicked on the banner because it was disguised to look like part of the IMVU next GUI.

That screenshot doesn't tell me much other than what the banner looks like. I need to know where on the screen it appears and what websites you see it on. Is it only one site? It is multiple sites?

If its only one site that site may be using them as a phishing attack. If its multiple sites your friend's machine could be infected.

As Don suggested, an adblocker and a script blocker would get rid of the banner and prevent future attacks.

I'l work on it, my friend really lacks ability to keep track of things. I will get a viewer session with him as soon i can to check it myself. By all means, i know he is not wiping out his history so it should be easy enough to track down from there. Just need a lucky frame with timezone been a bother.
