Let's Discuss Proper posting etiquette

While reading through most Threads I see some things that are disturbing. As well as I have seen peoples responses or what they have done..that is taking information that they see in one thread and then changing the Thread line name and writting the same things as someone else has already placed up there in a thread to do. Or There are those that simply to get thier count up post Thank you, or OK, or Alright, or seen, etc.

When responding to Treads these are ment to be able to help people as well as placing your input in. This requires more then just a one word or two word response. If one is gonna say thank you for the post meaning that thier post was helpful, informative or that it presented some insite...then one would expect another to wirte yes a Thank you but then let them know what you are thankful for. example: Thank you very much I find your work to be great, OR, Thank you very much what you wrote was has helped me out or I have found to be very informative.

I know some on here like to troll and feel that they make up threads that really are not pertinent to really anthing, not even funny in that fact but simply are placed here to make one look well like a troll. This uses up space People look here to be able to turn for information, Tutorials, Help, To meet others, then as well the game area is a place to just let your hair down and be silly.

Those that have been placing just a word or 2 as a response you need to think about the person that took the time to share what it is that they wished to share with others. Because when you post something be it a 1 or 2 word, well can't call them sentences, reply it ends up being completely useless as well as the orginator or someone else will come along and make comments that may not be so Nice.

Those that like to read peoples posts and then decided that they want to make a post the same or simular to one that is already out there well you need to stop as well because that is taking someone elses idea to place help out there and You trying to take the credit for it as well as it is cluttering up the threads with double threads. There is a reason there is Sections with headings to be able to place the sub threads under them so that people are not all over left and right looking for a specific thread that they may find informative.

The violators of this I have noticed are ones that have just recently joined the Mafia since Ovt 2017. Those people are the ones that need to go back reread the rules of Mafia and understand what you are doing is not helping no one but making people upset. We understand that you want your Medits or you are trying to push to get VIP or any other Permissions but if you are going to do it then realize that a Forum is not a place to Troll or to simply type 1 to 2 words. YOU are not being helpful to anyone when you do this.

I understand this is a universal site and there are many here that well have a language barrier and do not answer or when they read something that to them because thier language is limited they simply write a short response although they do not understand. But I believe I have read somewhere where staff has stated this is a English speaking site and that if needs be for one to use a translator offered free through Google. It is better to try and have something that looks funny when translated as some of them are not perfect in transcribing word for word but at least the person reading will kinda know what you are writting about.

So those that are posting 1 or 2 words and not at least a complete sentence please take into though that is not really a responce that you are doing or being helpful or informative but rather being a Troll.

~Moved to off topic~

IMVU Loungue is a place for people to chit chat about anything IMVU related that doesn't fit into the other sub forums like IMVU Tricks, RPing, Tools or Developing. Since this post is about our site, I'm moving it to off topic where non IMVU related posts go that don't fit News, Help or introductions.

@Esbeth

I agree with everything you've said. There's definitely a lack of quality posting going on here lately and it's something I've been wanting to combat.

Problems I've noticed with posting:

1) The poster says nothing more than thank you. Thanks yous are nice but they needlessly bump topics and add to the total replies. I've thought about introducing a thumbs up system as a way to say thank you for a post without having to type a reply.

2) The poster replies with nothing but emoji/smilies. This is a good way to get your post deleted if it's not part of a social game.

3) The poster replies to a topic that is many years old, bumping it back up to the first page and typically doesn't reply with anything but "thank you" or something equally pointless. This is a good way to get a topic locked if it's no longer relevant or the subject matter no longer exists.

4) The poster has no idea what the topic is about because they didn't read the first post and the topic has a few pages worth of replies and they only looked at the last one and so they post a question asking what everyone is talking about.

We also see abuse on a daily basis, people think they are smart and we won't notice when they're farming medits but we do and it only gets your medits reset, your posts deleted and possibly your account banned.

You are correct, it's written in our Shoutbox rules as well as our ToS: terms_of_service.php

Sorry Did not know where I orginally posted it I think in Lounge but sure it doesn't bother me to place where it is appropriate as long as it is seen by those that well as described above.

This is a really good thing to bring to attention. I do feel like the forums aren't as active or contributed for the betterment of the thread. Most tips that I've picked up tend to be a few years old and older. And it's kind of hard to be active on the forums when no one contributes and/or replies to keep it active. And to prevent people from bumping old threads, maybe they should be locked after a certain period. I used to frequent a site that would do that when the thread got past a certain time period or if they reached a post limit, the post would then lock and no one can comment on it anymore thus, no more bumping of old threads.

@BredToe

Unfortunately, the site's owner doesn't believe in locking posts that don't violate our TOS.

As for a lack of content to contribute to, don't rely on others to create content to reply to. If everyone does that no one will post anything. Don Von and Myself can't be the sole source of content for you guys. I've made sure to give you guys plenty of subforums to discuss anything and everything under the son in, it's up to you all to take advantage of it.

That said, I'll have more content to post when I'm done working on the new market.
