I need help earning credits on imvu. I have been trying and it's not going well. Most surveys are so long, and/or I get rejected from all of them.

Apparently, you tried to have free credits by filling offers, surveys etc ...
It is true, that some surveys are complicated to complete and sometimes it is hard to earn credits.
In fact, it is normal that it is difficult and if you have been rejected by these surveys, it is because certain surveys are looking for specific people, who answer their criterias. For example, a survey that is about cooking, they will only take people who have answer the criterias on "cooking".
On the other hand, if the surveys are long, it is normal too, because surveys contain a lot of questions, in which the more questions you answer, the more you earn credits. I have some tips to give you, tif you want to earn free credits more easily;
First of all, try to earn credits from your phone, with the application "IMVU", offers and surveys are easier to make and fill on phones than on the computer. In addition to that, there is a "support" button that allows you to see, the offers and the surveys that you managed to fill or not.
Then, always make small offers that are easy to do, like for example, some applications to download, or to confirm your email. Granted, this gives few credits (200 credits to 800 credits), but if you do them all, you will earn a lot in total. Never make the paid offers, it is useless, as much buy credits directly on IMVU. truth is that Imvu isnt made to be all about free credits they make their money on the back of advertisers and developers you will never earn enough credits on their promotions nor should one be able to as if that was to happen all developers would stop as only imvu gets rich and we devs toil for peanuts

Ofcourse, buying credits is always the easiest way to get credits but I do understand that most people cannot afford to buy credits, or prefer not to. I typically buy credits but for your question of earning credits, although successful surveys are hard to come by, you do eventually find working surveys. Whenever you find a survey that will give you your credits I suggest making a 2nd account and repeating the survey off your new IMVU account, once you receive your credits you can gift your main account! It seems to be a lot of step and take some time but it does work! There is Daily Spin in the Home section for the phone users. If you use PC, you have to go to https://www.imvu.com/next/home/. Do spin the "Daily Spin" wheels. You can earn minimum of 15 credits to maximum of 200 credits per day with just spinning that wheel daily.

Head over to your PC, download the classic IMVU client for PC, Then, Just go through the tutorial of the client, you will get credits. And just login daily on your IMVU client, you can make around 4000 credits if you login without missing any day. (Login for a month without missing any day.)

the vip even though it does cost, the amount you spend to become a vip will return with reward credits fast,
as to doing the surveys, i do find i have been turned away a lot mid way through the survey, gets frustrating, but when i finally get through one the next few are usually approved so you should be able to do at least 3,
the best time of day to do them is in the morning, that's because they then don't say they have fulfilled the required participants for this survey,
i find i get the best results with the 1000 credit surveys, the value doesn't seem to set the amount of questions, (even thought they say the time to do one is less i haven't seen that to be true) so just do the 1000 ones, also look for on weekends some times they have double value credit surveys, so 1000 is 2000,

yeah the most profitable way to earn credits is by doing Surveys, all the other earning method is kinda hard to do, or not rewarding enough, like the video watch on my country only give 1 credits every watchtime.
Surveys however give about 500 usually and you only need about 10-30 minutes to do the surveys.
it just that you might need to lie a bit so the survey will find you interesting, since sometimes they decline some person that they're not interested with. just pick something they ask alot, eventually you will get your credits.
Surveys is really rewarding, sometimes it could give you more than 1k perdays depend on how many surveys that you could take, or available.
there's one time i got whole 4.000 credits on one surveys, and it only take about 30 minutes to do so.
just be sure to take the survey carefully and read all the words they mentioned.
