A great men’s fragrance is the most powerful tool in your style arsenal. Though it may go unbeknownst to the naked eye, the right cologne can sharpen your suiting attire, add a signature to your everyday uniform, and can even turn any ordinary outfit into something extraordinary for special occasions. “How?” you might ask. The best colognes for men can provide an invisible cloak of confidence, one that makes you stand taller and step with charming suavity. Studies have shown that fragrance can improve your mood as well as reduce anxiety and stress, enabling you to project the best version of yourself. And while it might be easy for a person to forget what clothing you wear, scent has the ability to leave a lasting impression in our memory. It’s the finishing touch that empowers you to define yourself through the sense of smell, but it also has the transformative power to allow you to embody a version of yourself that you wish to be — so choose your cologne wisely.

Dior Sauvage is definitely the fragrance that left the mark in the industry and it most certainly remains one of the best sellers today. Johnny Depp in the desert being… Well, Johnny Depp – playing guitar in the desert while Native American is dancing… Even though the campaign was pulled due to appropriation of Native culture, that’s the impression house Dior wanted you to have – a fragrance that is one with Earth, soul, and nature, but still very modern. Francois Demachy from the house of Christian Dior is a mastermind who created Dior Sauvage Eau De Toilette in 2015 and it skyrocketed, becoming the best-selling fragrance ever since.
What Does Dior Sauvage Smell Like?
Straight out of the bottle, Dior Sauvage smells like a fresh, adventurous, spicy, classic man fragrance, but at the same time, it’s not something you didn’t smell before, so don’t expect much in terms of uniqueness.
It does smell like a manly, wild, and sexy fragrance, but a lot of people get reminded of Bleu De Chanel, Versace Dylan Blue, and Prada Lunna Rosa Carbon.
However, Sauvage has its own uniqueness – it’s similar to others, but if you’re to be blindfolded and you get to smell these ones, you would easily figure out which one is Sauvage.
If you can imagine classic men’s fragrance with a tiny bit of wilderness in it, that’s what Dior Sauvage smells like.
Notes used in the creation of this fragrance are commonly seen in men’s fragrances but a different blend in them gives Sauvage a recognizable scent. Those would be (1):
Top notes:
Pepper
Calabrian Bergamot
Heart notes:
Geranium
Lavander
Vetiver
Patchouli
Sichuan pepper
Pink pepper
Elemi
Base notes:
Labdanum
Cedar
Ambroxan
When you spray it you can immediately smell the pepper. It’s so strong, that I have a feeling that molecules of the pepper are just buzzing through the air in all directions like they are radioactive!
You can smell a little bit of bergamot, but there is no real bergamot in the notes — it’s aroma chemical manipulated to smell like bergamot.
That is perfectly fine since fragrance houses often use these because they are cheaper and can make the fragrance more affordable. Also, aroma chemicals are used when perfumers need a certain note to have different performances – in this case, real bergamot is a more soft citrusy note that’s not going to give you that smash through the air that the perfumer wants you to feel, so they replaced real bergamot with aroma chemical.
As it dries down, it becomes drier, where you start to feel pepper combined with lavender, but these notes were combined so well that you start smelling that there’s something sweet from the background combined with other notes even though in reality these notes are not sweet.
Right after the heart of the fragrances reaches its peak and starts slowly declining towards the base, Sauvage becomes dry, still pepper dominant, woody (with a bit of tobacco note I’d say) compliment getter that’s gonna last for hours on your skin.
In my personal opinion, Dior Sauvage is too universal and too safe, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a beautiful smelling fragrance. There are no notes except the pepper that will be too obvious, they are all a bit blurred and merged together, which makes it a true manly, sexy, men classic
Altogether, if you are not a fragrance freak like me, I bet Sauvage will blow your mind!
How Long Does Dior Sauvage Last?
Dior Sauvage lasts for 10-12 hours, being ultra-potent and projecting for the first 4-6 hours, depending on your skin.
Sillage is also ultra-strong, and the scent will definitely stay in the air after you.
It’s an absolute beast in terms of longevity and it also has loads of projection, projection even 4-5 feet around you constantly. If you want everyone to smell your presence when you walk into the room, then you will make no mistake doing it with Dior Sauvage.
Longevity always played a huge role in making this fragrance best seller and it’s definitely one of the reasons why so many people like it. Saying that I’m pretty sure that Dior house won’t take anything away from Sauvage’s longevity in the future.
When to Wear Dior Sauvage?
Dior Sauvage is a very universal fragrance, so saying that you can wear it during the day or at night when going out. It works beautifully on hot summer days, but also it keeps its performance in the cold wintertime.
Most people said they love to wear it in the office, but don’t limit it to be just the office fragrance – Dior Sauvage will fit perfectly if you have a date with someone you want to impress.
There’s really no rule here when it comes to this amazing fragrance. It fits perfectly in every event and it will most definitely leave awesome first impressions.
How Many Sprays of Dior Sauvage is Enough?
I’ve tested hundreds of options, from almost bathing in it, to having just one spray, and the result is pretty much what I expected.
Dior Sauvage is a very potent perfume, so 2-4 sprays should work just fine for you and should be enough. Get 2 on the sides of the neck, and if you want it to keep the smell longer on you, spray 2 more times on your chest or shoulder. Fragrances always linger more on your clothes than on your skin.
If you want to go below 2, then just spray it once right under your chin and it will work like magic again. However, if you think that 2-4 sprays are not enough, feel free to spray it a few more times wherever you need it.
Just make sure you don’t apply over 3 sprays on the same spot as that will make it harder for the fragrance to open up and dry down to the base notes.

Should I Wear Dior Sauvage? Is It For Me?
If you are a man who has no problem with people knowing you entered the room before they saw you, and if you are a man who loves expressing his masculinity then yes, Dior Sauvage EDT is definitely for you.
Of course, not only do those two rules define if the Sauvage is the right fragrance for you.
You must have in mind that this fragrance is a top seller since 2015 when it was created and that a lot of men out there have it, so there’s a good chance that people around will recognize it and might comment something like “Oh, you smell like my brother/boyfriend/ex/friend, etc.“. So if you are okay with smelling like lots of men out there, then go ahead, but if you’re more into smelling unique, then Sauvage might not be the best choice for you.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Sauvage is mostly not for folks who don’t like interaction with people and getting a lot of attention. I’m saying that because Sauvage will do just that – it will let everyone know that you smell good, it will spike interest in people to approach you and ask you about your smell and most certainly it will get your attention.
So altogether, if you like the fresh, sexy, and manly fragrance but you also want it to be pretty safe which will make sure that most people like it, then yes, Dior Sauvage is a great choice for that.
It’s no secret that women adore Dior Sauvage. There were a lot of social experiments where guys would get thoughts of girls they never met before, and 8/10 of women always say that Sauvage is definitely one of the best fragrances they ever smelled.
But is Dior Sauvage unisex? Can a woman wear it?
The house of Christian Dior declared Sauvage to be men’s fragrances, not unisex. However, it’s known that many women prefer wearing men’s fragrances, so if you are a woman who seeks masculine perfume, Dior Sauvage can serve that purpose.
What’s The Difference Between Dior Sauvage EDT, EDP, Parfum, and Elixir?
In 2015 Dior released Sauvage which was EDT, meaning it had 10-20% of etheric oil and 80-90% of alcohol. 3 years later they released Eau De Parfum (EDP) version which also turned out to be an amazing fragrance, but nowhere near close to EDT. Year after that, in 2019, Dior released Sauvage Parfum, which I believe was a total miss.
The difference between Sauvage EDT, EDP, and Parfum is pretty big which changes the complete story about the fragrance.
In short, the main differences are that Dior Sauvage EDT, EDP, and Parfum don’t have the same notes, they don’t have the same performance, the price is different for all 3 of them, and some people who like EDT won’t like other versions and opposites. Those differences are big which changes the story entirely about the fragrance as they don’t smell or perform the same.

One of the most recognizable high-fashion names in the world, Versace symbolizes the utter peak of luxury. Designed by Aurelian Guichard of Givaudan in 2012, Versace Eros Eau de Toilette is a provocative, alluring fragrance that exemplifies Versace’s position as the one of the foremost arbiters of luxury.
Versace Eros Eau de Toilette is aromatic, woody, and green. With top notes that mix the scents of fresh mint leaves, green apple, and Italian lemon zest, it’s a fresh and invigorating eau de toilette.
Middle notes of tonka bean, Venezuelan ambroxan amber and geranium flower add depth; and vanilla, cedarwood, oak moss, and vetiver provide Versace Eros with a sweet, dark, forest depth. Versace Eros belongs to the Fougère family of fragrances
Fougère scents are characterized by sweet, blended top notes that evaporate quickly to reveal woody, sharp, and lightly sweet middle and base notes. As an exemplar of this category, the blend of scents in Versace Eros is well-balanced and masculine without being overwhelmingly dark. As an eau de toilette for men, Versace Eros is a bit unexpected.
It’s much lighter and sweeter than many and somewhat androgynous, making it appropriate for women who want to smell masculine as well. The unexpected notes, however, are a benefit here – it’s a fragrance not often replicated, making it alluring and exotic.
Presentation
This eau de toilette comes in a deep turquoise bottle with a gold-accented cap. Square in shape, it features Versace’s iconic Medusa logo embossed in the center and on top of the cap. Around the logo is a meander in a slightly deeper turquoise reminiscent of those found in Ancient Greek art.
The overall presentation of Versace Eros is intended to evoke the brand’s Mediterranean origins. Versace’s Medusa logo is prominently featured and in combination with the classic meander, is reminiscent of Ancient Greek mythology and legends.
Usage
The blend of mint and vanilla notes make Versace Eros appropriate for daytime use. While it is certainly a masculine scent, it is on the lighter end of the spectrum. Though light, it has a strong scent, so be careful if you decide to wear it to work or in other professional situations. Make sure not to over-apply.
With a clean, fresh, and sweet scent, Versace Eros is best suited for warmer times of the year. It does have a fairly significant sillage, so wearing it on steaming hot days is not ideal. While appropriate for work in restrained use, Versace Eros can also transition seamlessly to a night out. Its strength works in its favor, as it lasts all night and lingers on the skin. It’s more youthful than many fragrances, making it great for dates and nightclubs.
Sillage and Longevity
For an eau de toilette, Versace Eros ranks highly in terms of both sillage and longevity. Just a single spray under the shirt provides day-long fragrance at a level that is appropriate in work and other professional situations.
It dries down after about two hours, leaving the base notes of vanilla, cedarwood, oak moss, and vetiver. Vanilla is a dominant scent here, and will linger for up to 12 hours, depending on your personal chemistry and activity level.
Within the first few hours, wearers of Versace Eros will experience sillage of around three feet. It lingers on the skin throughout the day, and the scent lasts on clothes for several days.
Verdict
If you like sweet, fresh scents, this would be a great fragrance for you. Since vanilla is a long-lasting element in Versace Eros, stay away from this eau de toilette if vanilla is not a scent you enjoy.
If you are a bottle collector, the distinctive look of the deep turquoise makes it a good addition to your collection. This eau de toilette is strongly scented and a single spray is adequate to last an entire day.
In the end in my opinion i can say The Dior Sauvage is best for Summer and Versace Eros is best for Winter.
